Town of Littleton Cares (TLC) Meals on Wheels is a nonprofit organization that has provided nutritious meals, volunteer visits, and other services to seniors and home-bound adults in the south metro Denver area since 1968. Every month, TLC Meals on Wheels delivers more than 10,000 hot meals to hundreds of people across an area that spans 95 square miles.
For the past 10 years, the organization has been headquartered in Ames Elementary School, owned by Littleton Public Schools, but that building is being torn down for the construction of a new school. TLC Meals on Wheels is moving to a new location in Littleton, taking occupancy of the former Las Delicias restaurant at the intersection of South Broadway and Arapahoe Road.
TLC Meals on Wheels is completing a major renovation of the 6,800-square-foot facility, and RTM Engineering Consultants is offering mechanical engineering design services at a discounted rate to assist with the organization’s mission. RTM is providing expertise and consulting to completely renovate the kitchen and to convert the dining rooms into administrative offices and a food pantry in which low-income residents can obtain food at no cost.
TLC Meals on Wheels estimates that the total costs for the move and renovation will reach $2 million, including relocating or upgrading its commercial kitchen equipment, and building out areas for offices, meeting space, and meal preparation and packaging. The facility is in a more central location to the organization’s delivery area, and it will provide room for future growth and an expansion of its services.
“TLC Meals on Wheels provides a valuable service that improves the lives of hundreds of our neighbors,” said Mike Best, Principal. “RTM is happy to have the opportunity to invest in our community and help the new TLC Meals on Wheels facility open its doors.”
