RTM Engineering Consultants was contracted to provide Civil engineering design for various site improvements including an addition to the processing building and the addition of a new railroad spur to the South Chicago Packing Plant.

Site improvements to the facility included an expansion to the existing parking lot along with ADA building access improvements. Changes to the grading and paving were also designed to support all improvements to the site. RTM performed an investigation of existing utilities and provided plans and permitting for the proposed improvements, as well as making improvements to the existing stormwater management system.

The project included the addition of a new railroad spur, allowing the facility to load and unload railcars without interfering with other railroad operations. In conjunction with this, a new rail/truck transfer station was needed as well as additions to the containment areas and tanks.

Throughout the project RTM coordinated all approvals for the project with the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois, as well as the Norfolk Southern Railway.
