Civil engineering is a discipline with a long history, dating back to the design, construction, and maintenance of the world’s earliest infrastructure projects. But it still continues to evolve and modernize with emerging trends and technologies.

RTM Engineering Consultants’ civil engineering department has more than 30 years of experience in developing site engineering designs for commercial, residential, industrial, and municipal projects. And the civil engineering team is always looking for ways to optimize projects to save time, money, and resources for clients.

“In our field, we don’t necessarily have new innovations coming out all the time,” said Scott DiGilio, Principal at RTM. “Collaboration tools make up one area where technology really drives us. We use software that facilitates communication and cooperation between our internal teams and other partners, like architects.”

RTM also invests in technologies that provide the most accurate and up-to-date information possible to clients. These include tools that allow RTM to meet new requirements from governing agencies in a cost-effective and efficient way and programs that automate documentation of important data.

“We just started utilizing a new aerial mapping service,” said DiGilio. “It takes high-quality aerial photos three times a year, and we use them to measure distances and heights and other functions you can’t do with something like Google Maps. The photos provide precise factual information to our clients when they are looking at a site.”

RTM’s team stays updated on how to best utilize the leading civil engineering tools. This specialized expertise helps RTM stay ahead of the curve and add value to client projects.

“Our staff is comprised of advanced CAD software users,” said Matt Whisler, Senior Civil Engineer at RTM. “Using detailed 3D models and advanced software components ensures that we’re delivering accurate, efficient, and cost effective results for our clients.”
