RTM Engineering Consultants recently teamed up with OKW Architects and W.E. O’Neil Construction for the 2016 Chicago Canstruction Design/Build Competition. The event, which benefits the Greater Chicago Food Depository, is an international competition that challenges teams of architects, contractors and engineers in the building industry to design and build structures completely out of canned food, following strict guidelines.
Canstruction has been known to collect over 100,000 lbs. of non-perishable items each year for soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters and programs throughout Cook County, and is the Food Depository’s largest one-day food drive that helps to put food on the table for the 1 in 6 men, women and children who turn to the Food Depository annually.
Congratulations to the RTM Canstruction team – Amar Maranabasari, Jess Neff, Nicole Wujcik, Tad Byrne and Jess Kacmar! The team collaborated with OKW’s and WE O’Neil’s team members over the course of several months to ensure a smooth process was in place to build a 7-foot tall by 10-foot long structure of “Dory,” a character from Disney’s Finding Nemo and Finding Dory, using more than 7,000 cans.
Thanks to Jonah Shafer from The Mind Forest, a digital multimedia company, for producing a time-lapse video of build night, with music provided by bensound.com.
