RTM provided mechanical, electrical, specialty lighting design, technology, and commissioning services for the complete demolition and renovation of the former Sky Hotel.
The lighting design team carefully coordinated to help maximize ceiling heights within the constraints of building height restrictions while providing both direct and indirect illumination. Guests are welcomed by a two-story lounge, where recessed linear grazer and concealed lighting detail along the primary stair accentuate the relief paneling. Adjustable accent lights were aimed to highlight the angled surfaces of the geodesic sphere housing the DJ booth. The guest experience is enhanced by color-changing LED lights concealed in an undulating bench, illuminating vertical acrylic tubes in sync with the music.
The two-story lounge bar continues the geometric theme from the DJ Booth in the back bar wall. Linear lights mounted behind the diffuse acrylic panels create a play of light and shadow, defining the triangular shapes. Cove lighting and recessed downlights provide general lighting for the bar top and back bar area. Bar face lighting, set back from the curvilinear surface, adds visual interest by illuminating the protruding curves while casting shadows on the receding ones.
