Working in partnership with Affiliated Engineers, RTM will provide MEP/FP engineering design, project management and construction administration services for the ground-breaking 575,000-square-foot Cancer Center located on The University of Chicago’s South Side campus. The center will be designed to serve a wide spectrum of patient, clinician, research and community needs with a focus of enhancing the patients’ experience. RTM will collaborate extensively throughout the design process with AEI, Cannon Design, and UChicago Medicine to successfully deliver this outstanding healthcare facility.
The new Cancer Center will be constructed in two primary phases in conjunction with a site preparation and enabling phase. Phase 1 will include 80 inpatient beds, including 64 medical-surgical beds and a 16-bed intensive care unit, 90 consultation and outpatient exam rooms, a dedicated rapid assessment/urgent care clinic, infusion therapy, a multidisciplinary breast center, and dedicated clinical trial spaces for streamlined access to the latest research.
Phase 2 will consist of a space that can expand vertically and horizontally, providing flexibility for future growth and technology. As one of only two National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the state, UChicago Medicine’s new facility is expected to become a destination for cancer care for the community of Chicago and beyond.
