RTM provided MEP/FP design for the new 2-story service facility for People’s Resource Center in Wheaton. PRC is a non-profit organization that brings the community together to respond to hunger and poverty in DuPage County. Volunteers work together to connect people with resources such as education, tutoring, jobs, technology, and art. The 11,000-square-foot space will support PRC’s social mission by providing a larger distribution program to more people in need, including a new food pantry, office space, and tutoring rooms.

During the design process, the main mechanical design challenge was that the city had an ordinance that required the Architect/Engineer team to create a “well” on the first-floor roof so that the mechanical equipment was not visible from the street below or adjacent buildings. This further complicated the owner’s desire to have a walkout garden on the first-floor roof as well.

The expanded Wheaton campus also features a state-of-the-art loading dock and much-needed additional parking.
