MiraCosta College was in need of a new Student Services and Administration building for their San Elijo campus to better serve their community, so the District chose Little to head up the design team. The resulting 10,800 square foot structure contains offices for campus admissions, financial aid, and counseling and serves as a welcoming point for the campus. Just outside its doors, the building also provides a covered space for students to study and socialize.

The structure’s façade is intended to compliment the exposed bluff faces surrounding the campus, using split-face concrete blocks to mimic the texture of the bluffs. Its coastal location overlooks the San Elijo Lagoon Reserve and required a Geogrid fabric installation below to safeguard against liquefaction during a seismic event. The District and design team were also committed to the project’s long-term sustainability, including many large windows and skylights to provide as much natural light as possible and utilizing DIRTT Environmental Solutions interior wall partitions to provide future flexibility.
