Friend Family Health Center, Inc., is an Illinois non-profit corporation that has been working with the City of Chicago to revitalize the Woodlawn neighborhood. RTM is providing MEP/FP engineering design services, energy modeling and commissioning for the construction of a medical office building at the corner of 63rd Street and Cottage Grove Avenue on the southside of Chicago. Converting a former department store building into a state-of-the-art medical office building, the project aims to provide much needed medical care to the underserved residents of the south side.

The rehabilitation of 6250 S. Cottage Grove Avenue will transform the abandoned 30,000-square-foot, two-story building into a 45,000-square-foot modern medical clinic consisting of clinic exam spaces, women’s health and obstetrics, rapid health, pharmacy, family and pediatric care. In addition to the primary services being provided, community outreach spaces are available along with support spaces such as x-ray and imaging and laboratory services. The building will also provide space for administrative offices.

The building will undergo extensive structural and facade improvements. A new roof, structural expansion, and new elevators are just a few of the major improvements which compliment the new MEP infrastructure being constructed. Engineered infrastructure include a completely new ventilation HVAC system, completely new plumbing and the addition of a fire protection sprinkler system. New incoming electrical service will provide the power needed for a modern medical office building. Efficient LED lighting is provided throughout the building. Low voltage systems such as nurse call, overhead paging, and security are provided in addition to the Tele/Data infrastructure and patient record systems.
