RTM Engineering Consultants provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering services, along with construction administration, for the renovation and build-out of a 56,000-square-foot facility.

This facility includes classrooms, medical teaching labs, administrative offices, a central dental treatment area used for hands-on patient care training, and lounge spaces. Each space was thoughtfully designed to support the teaching and practice of various healthcare professions, including dentistry and skilled nursing.

One of the primary design challenges was maximizing the reuse of existing equipment and, where feasible, maintaining existing equipment locations. The building’s mechanical infrastructure was outdated and undersized for the new program requirements. Similarly, the electrical infrastructure required significant reconfiguration to preserve the use of the existing main distribution panel.

RTM developed solutions to address these challenges. The mechanical units were replaced with new equipment sized to meet the facility’s updated heating and cooling demands while complying with current federal refrigerant regulations. To help control project costs, the new units were strategically installed in the same locations as the previous equipment.
