Testing is one component of research study designed to determine the viability and potential value of used electric vehicle batteries in post-vehicle, stationary energy storage applications.
Long-term battery testing will take place at secure location on UCSD’s nationally recognized microgrid for grid-connected battery testing, co-located with 320 kW photovoltaic array test site capable of simultaneous testing of up to four full size EV battery packs with independent control channels, monitoring, and data acquisition; cumulative system size: 120 kW and 70 kWh. Battery operations designed for response to building and transformer loads, intermittent photovoltaic generation output, solar forecasting, and SDG&E wholesale pricing.
