At RTM Engineering Consultants, a central goal of ours is to consistently cultivate new talent from some of the top universities and engineering programs across the country. Each summer, we are thrilled to host a dynamic and educational internship program where undergraduate and graduate engineering students can gain actual, hands-on experience from our team. They get the opportunity to work on real projects, attend site visits with our studios, and learn invaluable knowledge and skills from mentors established in the industry. Our 2019 interns will become an integral part of the RTM team. We are also happy to say our interns nearly always join as full-time team members after graduation.
This year, we interviewed some of our 2019 interns to get to know them better, learn a few fun facts, and find out what they are most excited about this summer.
Ty Sawka: Ty is currently a senior at the University of Texas at Arlington, joining us for the summer in our Dallas office. He’s most excited to gain professional experience using different types of engineering software, and is hoping to learn more about the role MEP design plays in the construction process. Ty’s first impression of the RTM Dallas office was how great the chemistry was among the team members. A fun fact we learned from Ty is that he used to want to be a professional athlete growing up, but we are excited he chose engineering instead.
Jamie Wurster: Jamie is in her 4th year at the Illinois Institute of Technology. While working in our Chicago office this summer, Jamie can’t wait to get to work on the buildings in the city! Having always wanted to be a Mechanical Engineer, Jamie is excited to advance her CAD skills and learn more on how to make thermal systems more efficient. Something fun we learned about Jamie is that her favorite superhero is Wolverine, and we agree he’s pretty awesome.
Sean Britnell: Sean is a senior at Valencia College in Orlando, Florida. Sean is excited to learn from professional engineers established in their field, expecting to gain plenty of hands-on experience to supplement his education. One of his summer goals at RTM is to become fluent in Revit and AutoCAD. Sean has experienced a warm and inviting environment in the Orlando office, and is impressed with everyone’s eagerness to teach!
Yavori Luenig: Yavori is joining our Milwaukee office this summer, and will be part of the Graduating Class of 2021 at Milwaukee School of Engineering. He is most excited about being a part of a team of professionals that can have a real impact on the community around us. He is hoping to learn more about the creative design strategies that RTM uses on projects, and was impressed that even though the office is busy at times, everyone is still happy to stop and chat. We learned that Yavori wanted to be Bob the Builder growing up, and we’d say you definitely joined the right industry!
Colin Miller: Colin has just finished his undergraduate studies at Nebraska and is planning to go back in the fall to complete a Master’s in Architectural Engineering. Colin, who has previously interned with us, is excited this summer to do a final walk through for a building he worked on during his first summer as an intern. He is hoping his internship this summer will give him the opportunity to apply the engineering skills he’s learned in school to the actual design process. A fun fact we learned about Colin was that growing up he wanted to be Adam Savage from Mythbusters, and this was ultimately the motivating factor leading him to engineering as a career. We are happy to have you onboard again this year!
We are excited to see what our 2019 interns will bring to our offices this summer!
