RTM Engineering Consultants is providing MEP/FP engineering design services for the multi-phase project at Midway International Airport to completely renovate their concessions concourse. Phases for this project will be carefully planned out so as not to interrupt normal operations of the airport, with the first two phases having been completed in July of 2018.
The multi-phase redesign project will increase the total concessions area from 44,000 square feet to 70,000 square feet, and offer passengers a wider variety of choices when it comes to shopping, dining and amenities. Local and national brands will allow for healthier food options and an expanded selection of retail stores for Midway patrons.
Phase 0-1 involved redesigning approximately 6,300 square feet of space for the addition of several new food court vendors as well seating areas for airport patrons. RTM designed the shell/core work for the new restaurant spaces, as well as all new lighting for the seating and walkway areas, and new power for charging stations throughout the space. As part of these renovations, RTM needed to relocate and modify most of the HVAC systems and ductwork to accommodate the new layout. A new power distribution system was designed for the restaurant spaces with a meter center feeding to each location.
