RTM provided MEP engineering design services for the new fire station #5 in Lenexa, KS, and served as the first LEED-certified building in the city.
The fire station features two drive through apparatus bays warmed by radiant heat and also includes an attached bunker gear area, decontamination room, hose drying area, workshop and storage rooms, seven bunk rooms, showers, a captains office, kitchen and dining area, day room and fitness room.
Specific green features include a green roof, energy efficient lighting throughout, and a ground source heat pump system used to cool and heat the living quarters and office portion of the building. The apparatus bay is heated with infrared radiant heaters and the plumbing system is designed with low-flow plumbing fixtures.
