RTM Engineering Consultants provided mechanical and electrical engineering for the renovation and addition of 55,000 square feet—accommodating a family center, visiting specialist and urgent care, cardiopulmonary and sleep lab, emergency department, oncology, and registration—to the existing Aspirus Medford Health Center in Medford, WI. Led by Eppstein Uhen Architects, the design team was tasked to understand the organization’s current operations to ensure the proposed improvements were in the best interest of the facility and patients. Prior to commencing work, the team developed a basis of design that required staff approval.
As the project encompassed a wide variety of spaces, coordinating construction with the facility staff was paramount in eliminating any disruption to hospital operations or reduction in patient satisfaction. The team met with staff to review each phase of the project so they had an understanding of how it would affect operations and the patients.
Implementation logistics were fully integrated into the planning process, providing a comprehensive blueprint for decision making and project prioritization.
Emphasizing operational efficiency and sustainability, RTM’s design took into consideration the Green Guide for Health Care and featured LED lighting, reduced lighting power density, and automatic lighting controls. The use of Revit, NavisWorks, and Visual Lighting software improved coordination among the design and construction teams, resulting in a streamlined process from concept to completion.
